We provide one to one and group educational tours within major UK National Galleries and museums such as the national gallery, Tate Modern and Tate Britain.
Tours can be customised according to the individual’s needs, covering any art movement or an artist in particular
Duration: 2 hours, (4 hours, adults only)
Periods covered: All art movements
Key elements covered:
Observation: Observing an art work can be a deeply personal and enriching experience. There’s no single “right” way, we help our students engage with the art work in question fully, in a relax manner, and give them the time and opportunity to think independently.
Analysis: We comprehensively analyse an artwork, beyond simply observing it. It involves a critical examination of its visual elements, the techniques used, and the broader context in which it was created.
Subject matter: Analysing the subject matter we go beyond simply identifying “what it is.” It involves delving into why that subject was chosen, how it’s presented, and what meaning it conveys within its specific context. It’s a crucial step we take in understanding the artist’s message and the artwork’s significance.
Technique: Analysing painting techniques is about understanding the artist’s choices in their application of the materials and how those choices contribute to the overall effect, meaning, and emotional impact of the artwork.
Context: We delve into to all the background information that helps us understand why an artwork was made, what it meant at the time, and its broader significance and influence.
Sketching: Once all key elements are covered we will sketch parts of the art work and experiment with certain elements to explore compositions, proportions and techniques
